Pumps

A centrifugal pump is a mechanical device designed to move a fluid by means of the transfer of rotational energy from a driven impeller. Fluid enters the rotating impeller along its axis and is cast out by centrifugal force along its circumference through the impeller’s vane tips.

A metering pump is used to add small but accurate volumes of liquid to other fluid streams or vessels. A metering pump must be able to deliver liquid with an accuracy of greater than 3% across a wide range of discharge pressures.

A positive displacement pump is a mechanical device that moves a fluid by repeatedly enclosing a fixed volume of fluid and moving it through the system. The pumping action is cyclic and can be driven by pistons, screws, gears, lobes, diaphragms or vanes.

A self-priming pump is a centrifugal pump that has the capability of evacuating air from the pump suction line allowing atmospheric pressure to push the fluid into the pump casing for operation.

A submersible pump is a centrifugal or positive displacement pump which has a hermetically sealed motor close-coupled to the pump body designed to operate submerged in the process fluid.

A vertical turbine pump is a centrifugal pump with a elongated shaft designed to move liquid from a reservoir or well that’s below grade underground.
